Even though it was revealed that the prophecy was a lie, the connection between Suzuki and the bombing incident remained unclear. Nevertheless, Suzuki, who had become a prime suspect, continued to be interrogated.
In the wake of the bombing, just as the interrogator was replaced by a detective from the Metropolitan Police Department—having previously been handled by a local detective—Suzuki announced that he would ask nine questions to uncover the detective’s true nature. As the exchange with Suzuki progressed, the detective’s resolve began to waver, and the true nature of his seemingly unflappable demeanor gradually came to light.
Detectives are only human, after all, and cannot completely avoid emotions or impulses. They are expected to act like saints at all times and are severely criticized for any missteps. Many are called out even on their days off when a case arises, and some have broken families. Detectives fight amidst such stress.
Moreover, the police force is a closed bureaucratic organization. Investigations that fail or scandals become a matter of responsibility. The enemies are not just outside, but also many inside.
Suzuki, who was arrested for rioting at a liquor store, is he the ringleader of the bombing incident too? Who even is this Suzuki? What kind of person is he? How could he have caused explosions all over Tokyo? What was his motive...?
Toward the end of the story, events take an unexpected turn.
The "bomb" everyone carries inside their heart knows neither when nor what will set it off. Sometimes, it's suppressed and swallowed down. Sometimes, it's buried in daily life with the thought, "I wish the world would end." Sometimes, one is bursting with resentment and grudges, or seeking an outlet for anger against societal injustice.
Why did you kill them? Why did you commit the incident? Why did you go there? Pushing for answers to "why" often leads to a dead end. Even the person involved, who thinks they understand, actually doesn't. Where did you learn how to make a bomb? Who taught you? Nobody knows.
